Title: The Importance of Residual Renal Function in dialysis Patients
Learning Objectives:
1) To Understand the Evidence Linking Residual Renal Function to Survival in Dialysis Patients
2) To Learn about the Possible Reasons that Renal Function is Associated with Survival Benefit
3) To Learn about Strategies to Preserve Residual Renal Function in these Patients
Bio: Dr. Bargman received her MD cum laude from the University of Toronto, and completed postdoctoral studies in Melbourne, Australia and Stanford University in the United States. She is Director of the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit and co-director of the Renal-Rheumatology Lupus Clinic at the University Health Network in Toronto. She has a longstanding interest in peritoneal dialysis and has published numerous papers and book chapters related to this. Dr. Bargman is co-author of the chapter on Chronic Kidney Disease in the forthcoming edition of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine. She has won numerous teaching awards at the departmental level and faculty-wide awards for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Charmaine Lok
Title: Put the cap on citrate when the heparin hat doesn't fit
Bio:
Dr. Lok received her medical degree at McMaster University and did her internal medicine and nephrology training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Lok trained in the Clinician Investigator Program at U of T and obtained her Master's Degree in Clinical Epidemiology at Harvard University. Before becoming a physician, Dr. Lok practiced as a physical therapist (received her degree at U of T).
Currently, Dr. Lok is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and Staff Nephrologist at the University Health Network - Toronto General Hospital. At
UHN, she is the Medical Director of the Renal Management and Hemodialysis Vascular Access programs. Dr. Lok is an affiliate scientist at the Toronto General Research Institute in the Division of Clinical Decision Making and Health Care and continues to collaborate on research at The Institute of Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). Her research interests are clinical outcomes in patients with chronic and endstage renal disease, with a current focus on hemodialysis vascular access.
Dr. Lok's biggest challenge is her 2 young, energetic daughters!
