azathioprine prophylaxis for blood transfusions in pre-transplant

Is anyone seeing or giving 5-7d of azathioprine prior to and post blood transfusion in ESRD patients who are transplant candidates in order to prevent sensitization and rejection once the patient gets the allograft? Any evidence? I found some articles from the 80s that suggest there is no benefit but was wondering if anyone has seen something more recent. We have done it here in Edmonton but it is nephrologist specific.
