Holding Plavix before transplant

We have a patient who has been awaiting a cadaveric transplant. He was turned away because he was on Plavix!! So now our Nephrologist has held his Plavix as he awaits his next call. Has anyone heard of this? I'm afraid this pt will have a stroke or cardiac event as he is not adequately anticoagulated.
Any info would be appreciated
