Fosrenol (lanthanum) via G-Tube/Tube Feedings
Has anyone had any success using Fosrenol down G-tubes or mixing it directly with tube feedings? I currently have a patient in the ICU who is hypercalcemic and hyperphosphatemic and needs a binder. Pt is on tube feedings - I was thinking that we could crush the Fosrenol well, make a slurry/paste by adding a little water or tube feeding at a time until we get a decent "suspension" and add the resulting mix to the tube feeding container and give a good shake then feed the patient. Good idea or not? They did pick a renal tube feeding that had low phosphorous, but the patient has been having high residuals so this may not continue. Or should we crush the Fosrenol and make a slurry/suspension out of something else? Any suggestions are appreciated!
